The appropriateness test is a regulatory requirement under MiFID II. It ensures that retail clients have the necessary knowledge and experience to understand the risks of trading complex financial products like dated futures. Eligible retail clients must complete this test before gaining access to futures trading.
When can I take it?
You can take the test once your identity verification (KYC) and onboarding are complete.
How do I start it?
- Log in to your One Trading account.
- Go to the Markets section.
- Select a market labeled "FUTR" (e.g. BTC/EUR FUTR).
You'll be directed to the appropriateness test automatically.
What does it cover?
The test takes about 10–15 minutes and includes questions on:
- General trading concepts and risk awareness
- Leverage and margin
- Derivatives and how they work
- Risks associated with crypto and futures trading
- Example scenarios and decision-making
What happens if I pass?
You'll get immediate access to trade dated futures, based on your results and account type.
What happens if I fail?
- You have up to 3 attempts to pass.
- If you fail all 3, you'll need to wait 2 months before trying again.
- You can opt in to receive an email notification when you're eligible to retake the test.
Investing involves risks. The value of investments can go up as well as down and you may receive back less than your original investment or lose your entire investment. Investing with leverage means the value of your investment fluctuates more than the price of the underlying asset. One Trading does not provide investment advice and investors should make their own decisions or seek independent advice.
